Rules for Application and attribution of Scholarships
Scholarships to partly cover the participation to these courses can be granted to PhD students, if a set of criteria are fulfilled. For each EURO-DOTS PhD course, special rates with large discount will be foreseen for Ph.D. students. This registration fee will have to be paid in any case to the course organizer upon registration. The scholarship can be used to cover either 50% of the main expenses (course fee, travel, hotel) or 100% of the course fee. This choice needs to be agreed with the student’s supervisor (and paying organization). In any case, a cap of 1,000€ will not be exceeded. The student should provide information on the funding model at the time of application (using the Application form (AF) (pdf|doc), see section ‘Step by step for PhD students’).
In order to be eligible for a scholarship, a PhD student must fulfill the following requirements and provide the information by filling out the Application Form (AF) (pdf|doc). Certification by the PhD advisor is requested.
- Proof of registration as a PhD student in a European university
with final acceptance in the doctoral program of their university of origin.
The requirement regarding Doctoral program only applies if the university is organized into doctoral programs.
- The PhD work must have started.
The requirement should be stated by providing the official time of commencement of the PhD program.
- The course should fit sufficiently with the PhD topic of the student (short justification required) such that the student can directly benefit from it within his/her research program.
- Statement from the PhD advisor that the acquired ECTS credits by the PhD student will be accepted by the home university (if applicable).
See the AF.
- The student takes the engagement to take the exam
Payment of the scholarship depends on the student completing the course with an exam.
The specific exam format will always be provided in each course announcement.
- Scholarships are restricted to one per student and per year, during the PhD program (to be revised during the course of the project).
- Students can not apply for scholarships for courses organized by their home university.
- Students have to fill out the course evaluation form provided after completion of a course
- Students are kindly invited to write a short testimonial regarding their experience with the followed course. This will be posted on the Website under "Testimonials" (see also Step by step for PhD students for the template).
It is to be expected that there might still be more applications than budgeted scholarships. Therefore, typically, a maximum of 10 scholarships will be reserved per course. Moreover, a maximum number of 30 scholarships per course provider and per year are considered. The Steering Committee however reserves the right to increase these numbers if considered appropriate.
Application for a scholarship must be done at the latest 1 month before the start of the course. The decision on granting the scholarship is taken by the Steering Committee and is communicated to the student at the latest 2 weeks before the start of the course. The first 10 applications that fulfill the criteria will be accepted.
The scholarships are paid after the issue of a certificate of completion (attendance, exam and course evaluation) and the submission of the Scholarship Payment Form (SPF) (pdf|doc), see section ‘Step by step for PhD students’.
Important message to the PhD students interested in a EURO-DOTS scholarship!!!
Unfortunately today, on January 15 2015, the EURO-DOTS project has come to an end and no more scholarships can be granted for the time being.
Status EURO-DOTS on 15 January 2015
The EURO-DOTS-2 project has come to an end on 31 December 2014. At this moment there is no prospect about a possible continuation of this initiative, in spite of the huge success of the project and the ambition of the consortium to continue on this path. The success of the past actions cannot be better reflected than by the more than 220 testimonials (Testimonials) of students whom were granted a EURO-DOTS scholarship in the past 4 years. In these 4 years of EURO-DOTS, 132 course modules have been organized on 61 relevant topics/themes, by 20 course providers from 11 countries. More than 250 lecturers have been involved. More than 300 PhD students, from 19 European countries, have successfully applied for a scholarship. In 2014 40 Courses have been scheduled. The calendar and information on all past courses can be found on Courses. For more up-to-date information on the realizations and conclusions of EURO-DOTS, please go to “EURO-DOTS Conclusions” on Final Reports. The consortium is considering possible actions to keep the EURO-DOTS mission alive and hopefully see the start of a next phase of EURO-DOTS.
